SNAPSHOT: GIL GRAY CIRCUS AERIAL BALLET 1961
Someone asked once what sort of rigging Gil Gray had for The Aerial Ballet outdoors, well here it finally is, it consisted of six sets of 30' uprights not all visible here, and a seventh rigging in the center belonging to the feature act. Webs & or ladders were hung inside of, & between the the uprights, except none were attatched to the feature rigging. This year,(1961) there were three acts, Trudy worked Single Trapeze in the center, and was flanked on each side by webs, and Head Balancing Traps done by Oreste, & Peppo Canestrelli. The theme was "Deep Purple".

Wow! Show business like it used to be-like I wish it still was. Flags on top of the uprights! My dad always had American flags on top of his rigging and I was in charge of not letting them touch the ground during set up and tear down.
I'll try this -- Trudy is under the American flags ???? Were they all wearing purple outfits , or was it a break for the band to do a slower song -- keep in mind , I just screwed up the dates at home, so type slowly for me !
Trudy & the Canestrellis wore Purple costumes, the ballet girls entered in purple capes but wore green costumes under the capes. Yes Trudy is under the American flags. There are two more riggings out of sight to the right.
Tavana, your dads rigging was 50',(without the flags) when Gil Gray asked me how high my uprights were, I said 48', he replied, "Put 12' flagpoles on it and call it 60'"
In direct opposite to this, on Seusz in '75, the Shriners on one date decided to put up two poles with a long cable between them, then tighten the cable and hang 6 ladders some Shriner made in his garage, expecting our showgirls to work on townie rigging. Joachim Krause put the kabash on that without looking twice.
