Three years at CWM made me a real traditionalist, and I keep remembering Bob Parkinson saying, "I want the people to see what the circus used to be, not what it is today. That's what this site is about!

SNAPSHOTS: LUNCH WITH A LEGEND

What a treat yesterday when Jimmy Cole stopped by with Tony Steele, whom we hadn't seen for about thirty years. We had a great lunch at The Village Inn, one of the Gibsonton area's newest restaurants, & needless to say there were lots of memories shared about "bird's nests", "hocks offs", & shoot overs" of the past. One of Tony's observations was that the problem with the business today is, there are no "characters" left, those unique personalities that made our lives a "circus"!!!!
I have added the top photo of Tony from a 1977 issue of Debbie & Emil Goetschi's "Great American Circus Directory", I repeat that it is such a shame the magazine didn't get the support it deserved.
The caption below the picture reads, Extract from Guiness Book of World Records... "First triple & a half somersault (flying trapeze). Tony Steele to Lee Stath Marilees--Durango, Mexico-- Sept.30, 1962"

Just look at Trudy style. Once a show girl, always a show girl. Great pictures.

What a surprise to see that Tony was in town, and you all had lunch together!! We've sort of lost track of him, but glad to have some news of him being on this side of the country. Tony & Lily & Frank spent alot of time together in Paris over 40 years ago, in and around Cirque Buglione. Good memories!! Tell him Hi for us!!

Everyone sure looks different with clothes on. They say clothes makes the man. Not in the circus world. Its the wardrobe of the ring.
