PERU, REVIEW, #2:
(2) get well !
--------------------------------------------------------------
Flanking the CHF grounds are long boards of historic 24
sheets from Sells Floto - Ringling - Buffalo Bill - etc. The Office and parking lot are on the left and front center is the beautiful blue - yellow - red Big Top, a former Big Apple tent. The 21 wagons had returned from the parade, and visitors had a field day with their cameras, covering the ornate wagons and a historic and nostalgic chain driven Mack
Truck, the workhorse of the old rail shows. The Hall of
fame and museum barns never looked better, so congrats to the clean up crew, some of whom are members of
Circus Model Builders....My donated spec wagons from several years ago, had been upgraded with additional flash and fresh paint.
Other fans - personalities included (but not limited to)
Gronso-Taylor from Atlanta - David 'White Tiger' Orr
from Duncansville Pa;. David Reddy the King of Kalamazoo Mich, Paul Ingrassia Rockford Illinois, Larry and Ruth Rich
New Castle Pa, and from the Buckeye State, Mr. & Mrs Ron Powell from the late Clyde Betty Circus, Forest from Circleville and Jake Conover, web master of Xenia. Larry Putt plus ozens of others were on hand and enjoyed a delicious buffet banquet prepared by the hard working staff.
Tom Dunwoody introduced short speeches by CFA Pres. Pete Adams who inv;ited everyone to attend next year's CFA Convention in April in Sarasota; David Orr briefly
spoke about OABA (Outdoor Amusement Business Asso) how their donations were spent, and the new Lapel Pin, with proceeds benefiting OABA's animal fund. The Circus Model Builders Association Inc.had its recently appointed Pres. Bob Phebus , give his white hat to Tom Dunwoody, plus a detailed description of CMB purpose and activities.
Dunwoody commented on Bill Hall's White Tops article
pondering why Tommy Hanneford was never inducted into the Circus Hall of Fame....Simple Answer - NO ONE ever nominated him. Anyone can do this, so I volunteered.
On a somber sick list note, word came out that George
Steggerda from our Holland Mich. has been in Mayo Clinic; Laura Herriott Walker left Kelly Miller for a serious operation and is recouping in Sarsota with help from sister Cindy and Roy Wells. - Jenny Walker took over Laura's acts. Bad news in three's as Johnny Herriott had
neck surgery two days after his Hershy Speech with Buckles Woodcock.
Harold Meiser, Father of Ringling Red Cannon act Brian
organized a fund raising special Sunday show, with all talent being past performers and alumni of the Peru Circus. Pedro Carrillo also appeared in this show.
The regular CHF show followed the speeches. Ring
Master was veteram John Fugate wearing his sunny day patriotic tales and tie with a nice sunny smile.
Acts included the professional talent of Bryan Franzen cat act and elephant trio; Bryan is also tent master. His cute wife Irene from Bulgaria has now added an aerial moon feature and a seperate hula hoop act, finishing with an effective fire
ring to her talents, in addiion to working with the elephants.
Armando Cristiani family presented trampoline, single trap, and sword balancing and juggling acts while Pat Kelly, Emmett's son did the capable clowning.
All in all a spectacular week end for Circus Aficionados
