Three years at CWM made me a real traditionalist, and I keep remembering Bob Parkinson saying, "I want the people to see what the circus used to be, not what it is today. That's what this site is about!

PORTRAITS FROM THE PAST

If it's true that, "A picture is worth a thousand words", a conversation among these three today, would be "PRICELESS"

It is so weird the memories these pictures drag up. A simple thing like the cigarette holder. I had quite a collection. The only reason I used one was Reata Wallinda showed me how to bead my eyelashes. You did not wash them off the whole time the show was running. It took a couple of hour to do them. The holder was to keep smoke out of my eyes. No greater pain then haveing the bead work get into your eyes. I can see this as clear as if she were sitting here next to me.

I never met His Emminence, JRN, and only met Rudy Bundy very briefly, out here at the Inglewood Forum. Henry North and I jackpotted throughout an entire performance in Fresno, circa 1968. He was an elegant gentleman of impeccable appearance, as you can see here, who made a striking entrance into the building leading two magnificent German Shepherds on leashes. He provided me lots of history on some of the greats, and had a memorable sense of humor.

It is good to see the Blog bring good memories. Ijust received this email.

Bill...I knew Rudy & Katie well thanks to Whitey Savage who Rudy seemed to enjoy. When the show would play the Int Amp in Chicago, Roberta and I would go in, get Rudy and Katie and head for Don the Beechcombers where Rudy and Roberta would drink three Zombies apiece despite sign that said limit one per customer. We would return to Train behind Amp and I would play snare drums with brushes while Rudy played his Selmer clarinet which was made and given to him by Selmer himself from France. Jim Baker of Columbus agreed to put up all money to put Rudy in Ring of Fame in Sarasota this year. They instead chose Tihany, a foreigner with shows in South America. This reflects the Jenny Wallenda hope that if make a friend out of Tihany they might get some money or work for Showfolks and its members. The major and only thinker on R of F board said the thing got off track about five years ago and should be flushed. Rudy and I last had lunch at Sarasota Yacht Club about five years ago. His Parkinson's was so bad I had to hold the glass to his lips. Despite that he was great and recalled his many happy years in the music and circus business. He had given me all four of his long play records and I had given to CWM to be framed and put in RR car they were going to replicate of Rudy's. That of course did not happen. A few months back I had Greg go to the library on his own time and dig them out of collection and have photographed covers and back as a gift to Jim Baker. Cost me ninety dollars but reminder of Rudy great smile and up beat life was worth it. Share these remarks as you wish. Rudy deserves remembering....Paul Ingrassia
