KRONE ELEPHANTS BY RAIL

Of course some things are the same everywhere.
Here is "Dog", & Patricia, unloading the only Elephant car that belongs to Krone, the other two belong to the railroad co. The youngster in the background is Tony.

There is always a Police escort standing by to lead the way to the lot, & for protection from, "those people".

In one town the Animal Rights People set fire to the Krone Elephant Car the night before closing day, they underestimated the Krone workshop, by the time the matinee was over the next day the car was repaired & ready for loading.

The Krone trai looks quite like the Knie train of the same period.
After becoming familiar with the Ringling trai in the mid 70s I thought that even though the European passenger trains were very good I thought the European freight train equipment looked like it came off a wild west movie set or out of an American train museum

I love looking out over a rail yard & seeing all those old round top box cars. Let's remember the litterally thosands of old round tunnels & bridges that still exist over there. They also have strict rules regarding keeping them that way, which in my book is a plus.

We ate in a restaurant in Srassburg France that has been in business for over a thousand years, hell over here it would have been a parking lot in twenty.

Mr Wentzel is actually Paul, but seldom known as such outside of official matters.
I saw him riding with The Michaela Kaiser Troupe at Belle Vue, Manchester (England) one Christmas season, the act beind a trio with one other guy. Michaela used to be with a cossack act called The Golgojews, but started her own act. Its first booking was at The Circus World Championships in London! A good act, but not that good!
Out of the ring, Michaela wore glasses. Apart from the riding, she had a solo trapeze number, which I never saw.
I believe that PW moved from Krone to Louis Knie's show, but he won't be there now as the show went belly up. At least twice.

John.

Once again your wonderful pictures brought back memories. In the very early 50s we were with a German circus named "Circus Apollo"
We had our own ambulance and doctor travelling with us. We also had a shower wagon and a water wagon.....The circus was at that time also advertised as Circus Unter Wasser.....which meant in the second half of the show the ring was filled with water..LOL

We were on Krone when he left to go to Knie, and was sorry to see him go, I thought he & the show were good for each other. He was starting to do a lot of work on the side which may have been a problem, I did not discuss it with him as it was not my business. He sure is talented with leather.
Another friend there was named Kaiser, also a former Cossack, he was perhaps my age, white hair & beard, his wife Petra worked in the office. I believe their daughter was with Flic-Flac, which is where they went from Krone. Very nice people, we always parked side by side in Munich, we thought we were going to lose our homes one night when a fire destroyed three trailers,(that's posted somewhere in my archives), luckily they got the fire out before it reached the trailer next to them.

Krone had an encounter with Louie Jr. in Austria that sure killed any respect I had for him, I just might put it in a post on the blog.
Thaks for the comment, it stirred some good memories
