Not sure of the connection, But the Ruperts bears were an Ice show staple when I was a kid..

Rupert's Kissing Bears were in the Casino de Paris at the Dunes in Las Vegas in 1975. Nice act as I recall. After every trick the bear would do the "kiss of death" with the trainer. Also remember them on some ice show.
