Three years at CWM made me a real traditionalist, and I keep remembering Bob Parkinson saying, "I want the people to see what the circus used to be, not what it is today. That's what this site is about!

PARTY TIME # 2

Billy Barton used to call her "The Bionic Grandmother", I tell you she had no trouble keeping up with the rest of us, I remember her going to the Zocalo in downtown Mexico City with Bill Bannister on the subway, and you had to be super tough to ride that thing. This is Auralia Hall, with Trudy & I in the wee hours of the morning.

It was a privilege to be with her and her family for two seasons with Castle. When I'd go after meat, she'd always say, "Don't forget. Bring me a tenderloin." And I did. When Hubert returned with a big catch, he gave her the biggest fishes for her bears. The whole family was great. I wasn't surprised when she needed hip replacements, she had both done at once. Not only bionic, but truly the Godmother of the Circus. What a lady to remember.

I also felt priveledged to know that family. I was sitting next to Auralia in the audience when Vargas came to St. Pete or Clearwater in 75 or 76. The high wire rigging crashed into the seats, directly onto her. I believe she was good before and needed a cane afterwards, but I swear a normal person would have been dead on the spot.
