Three years at CWM made me a real traditionalist, and I keep remembering Bob Parkinson saying, "I want the people to see what the circus used to be, not what it is today. That's what this site is about!

DAREDEVIL ACTS #3

RASINI'S ROCKET CAR
Now this act is not quite as old as some of the others, although there have been acts like it around for a long time. There are enough stories about this one to call it a "Legend"!!!!

Everyone took bets on whether it would land in, or out of the trampoline,(a sort of canvas net on rollers to absorb the landing shock), and whether it would land right side up. I remember one young driver who replaced Rasini after he retired, whose nick name was "Corpse"

I think they brought this unit or another like it,into Rochester one year. After they set it up they sent the car down empty and it seldom made the loop into the canvas. No one wanted to ride in it,because they never knew if it would make it. So Gracie and Chuck cut it out of the show. Bill Galloway,Rochester,NY

Bill,
I'm sure it was this one, when Rasini retired Bob Atterbury bought it and would put anyone he could find who was "sucker", enough to do it. "Corpse", was one of them. Actually Eddie Ventura did it probably longer than anyone after Rasini.

There was another modern day car that I know of, that was "Cresso"(sp?), I think the Cresso car is at CWM.

Hi Kenneth,
CWM,(CIRCUS WORLD MUSEUM), is in Baraboo, Wisconsin, they have the largest collection of Circus memorabilia in the world. The museum occupies the grounds & buildings that were the original Ringling Brother's Circus Winter Quarters.
Bill

I hope to have more information about Knutte today.
