Three years at CWM made me a real traditionalist, and I keep remembering Bob Parkinson saying, "I want the people to see what the circus used to be, not what it is today. That's what this site is about!

FROM GLORIA WILKINSON:SAINT LOUIS FIREMAN'S CIRCUS 1951 FEATURING COWBOY STAR RED RYDER

This is the Tom Packs Circus, according to the program it was held at the Arena. Maybe someone can tell us if this pre-dates the huge show Packs used to present at the Public High School Stadium or maybe it was in addition to that show, which was sponsered by the Shrine.

I moved to St. Louis in 1966. At that time they had a big Police Circus in the spring (a Fleckles date then). The summer featured the Shrine date at Public School Stadium (Tom Packs). In the fall the Firemen had a Rodeo at the Arena. Both the Police and Firemen's date were fund raisers for a retirement fund. When the City began to add that benefit the dates ended (about 1971).
