Bill, That is ELOISE,s picture, but I played that date. DR never had pictures taken of me. I said that before many times. Notice her name is not mentioned. There was such a ruckes about this act behind the scenes. JC was barred from the building by a peace bond Castle had against him. A copy of TEEM Mag will tell all that it was me working that act. CBS saw the artical and contacted me in HUGO that winter to be on TO TELL THE TRUTH. I was 19 years old.

That was TEEN mag. Johnny Carson was on the panel of TO TELL the TRUTH as Donamici was doing another circus program special. Johnny Carson was the only one on the panel to guess I was the REAL EMPRESS LEOTA, His question was about elephants. My answer was the elephants with the smaller ears were used most in the circus. If I had known about what the future held with this blogging you can be sure I would have insisted pictures were taken.

Ninette, You are too kind. I never really cared about being reconnized as a person. It is my ability to work with animals that I am so proud of. I am honored to have ELOISE in the pictures of WILD ANIMAL FANTASY. She trained and made this act what it was. I have always tried to this day make her proud of my work. And it was and is very hard work. I just get pi%$ed when someone else tries to take credit for all her skills. She was one of a kind. This was ELOISES act. I am very proud to have learned from her, the best in and out of the ring.

Rebeca' It is allways great to be able to learn from the best in and out of the ring, not any one can do that', it is a honor to relate to some one that has done so; though some will never admit they did; but the ones that do. have all my respect and hat off. Ninette

Yes' Rebecca, it is a tremendous hard work the training of animals especialy the wild ones, one can practice, and practice oneself to do anything one whant to do in the ring or above' ending making it to its best ability for one is controlling its own mind and body, but animals' whhoooaa' that is a BIG'BIG' difference and a 24 hrs deal, many in my family had lions, horses, and shimps and monkeys act. But me' I cannot even handle a small cokapoodle he' controls me. Ninette

2 Things come to mind with this group of pictures - First: remember there were no one hour photos in those days so unless there were fans or professional photographers around there were not too many pictures of the small shows
Second: As much as I appreciate all you crazy people who worked carnivores, look at that gal riding a unicycle in heels - if you have ever caught a heel doing a dismount that impresses the he.. out of you. cc

cc,
All of these pics are from the program, & were pretty small, thus the bad quality.
Can you imagine if we had had the technology available today, now my wife can take a picture in Sarasota with her cell phone & I can have it on my computer, published to the world in the matter of a couple minutes.

cc,
I had to leave the "infernal machine", in the middle of responding to your comment.
Re: Second, I mean no disrespect to today's acts, there are a lot of very good ones out there, but I feel that we did take more risks back then, and did a lot of things the hard way. I just sold a photo of a double trapeze act with the "bearer" doing a back plange on the trapeze bar, with a neck loop holding his wife. The difference is when I see tricks like that now, the bearer is using hand-loops. Now I often stop & think, maybe they are smarter than we were, by not taking unecessary chances.
But we oldtimers still can't help but be proud because we did it the hard way.

something else that was much more important years ago was style, class, wardrobe and appearance. you didn't see acts doing three turns in the same costumes very often, performers kept themselves in better shape - you didn't see people 100 pounds overweight in spandex-- and they were aware of the fantasy. I know an 8 year old kid whose opinion of a recent "gorilla" act was destroyed because the "gorilla" was wearing tennis shoes. He knew it was a man in a gorilla suit but he was prepared to enjoy it anyway - until he saw the guy hadn't even bothered to put the feet on his costume. Details like that aren't that hard to correct, if people cared as much today as they did 20 years ago.
